Hong Kong – 1 September 2020 – Sheraton Hotels, Marriott International’s brand focused on connecting and creating communities, today announced its continued expansion in Indonesia with the opening of Sheraton Belitung Resort. Located within a wildlife reserve, the new 169-room hotel is set to be the new gathering place for travelers to immerse themselves amidst nature’s splendor.
Surrounded by over 100 small islands, all decorated with white sand and granite rocks, Belitung Island is a part of Bangka Belitung Islands Province, located off the eastern coast of Sumatra. The hotel is conveniently located 45-minutes away from H.A.S. Hanandjoeddin International Airport and a short drive away from the Black Rocks Golf Course, and the coast of Tanjung Kelayang – known as the heart of Belitung.
“We are delighted to be opening the Sheraton Belitung Resort, which is the 8th Sheraton branded hotel to open in Indonesia,” said Rajeev Menon, President, Asia Pacific (excluding China), Marriott International. “Sheraton is Marriott International’s most global brand, and this opening marks another exciting moment in the continued brand expansion across Asia Pacific. Belitung is one of Indonesia’s best kept secrets, and the arrival of Sheraton Belitung Resort will only enhance its appeal as a destination for couples and families alike to enjoy this paradise together.”
The hotel’s 164 spacious guestrooms and suites feature a contemporary design that is inspired by the local environment. Each room offers captivating ocean, lagoon or garden views, and are appointed with modern amenities including a 55-inch LCD television, high-speed wireless internet, and motion sensors, which allows for automatic activation and deactivation of the AC when guests enter or leave the room. Other amenities include premium bath essentials and a deep soaking bathtub. As an eco-friendly resort, Sheraton Belitung is committed to reducing its carbon footprint, and conserving energy by using environmentally friendly materials. Upon arrival in the lobby, guests are greeted with a cool ocean breeze coming through the open and cross-ventilation system. The lobby’s ceiling uses Lenggadai, a local tree from the Rhizophoraceae family found in the nearby forest. The famous granite rock of Belitung forms an integral part of the resort’s building material, adding accents to the lobby flooring. After a grinding and smoothening process, the granite rocks are cut into pieces and burnt on the spot, forming tiles with natural colours.
The resort also has 3 distinctive dining outlets that will delight guests with a wide variety of culinary experience. Located on the beachfront is Island Restaurant all-day-dining restaurant that offers a delectable spread of international and local delicacies including Gangan and Mie Belitung, two island favourites. Seafood Market Restaurant features long dining tables made from driftwood where guests can enjoy the freshest catch of the day directly from the local fisherman. Blue Lagoon lounge and bar is an ideal spot for guests to enjoy locally inspired cocktails and light bites with mesmerizing ocean views.
For guests looking to maintain a fit and healthy lifestyle during their travels, the hotel features a 24-hour fully equipped Sheraton® Fitness centre and an outdoor infinity pool. Shine Spa features an extensive menu of spa treatments using only the finest ingredients from local plantations – allowing guests to wind down and recharge. Children will have fun at the Kid’s Club with educational programming.
The hotel features 7,480 square feet of event space that is ideal to host a range of business or social events. This includes 3 meeting rooms, each equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and high-speed internet access, and Northern Light, the hotels spacious ballroom.
Staying true to its commitment to the environment, the hotel shares a vision that the tourism sector on the island is to be planned and developed in a way that brings about a combination of sustainable and commercially viable initiatives, and the eco-friendly design that showcases the natural environment the hotel is located in. Surrounded by 200 hectares of designated wildlife reserve, the hotel is home to over 1,000 different types of flora and fauna, allowing guests to spot the Karamunting flower which only grows in Belitung, or the Tarsius, one of the smallest primitive that can only be found on some islands in Southeast Asia.
“We are thrilled to open the first five-star hotel in Belitung, and to welcome local and international travellers to discover Indonesia’s hidden gem with Sheraton Belitung Resort,” said Yvonne Wan, General Manager. “We look forward to creating memorable stay experiences for our guests that bring to life Sheraton’s signature hospitality initiatives, with a green conscience.”
