The prospect of having to carry around a heavy DSLR for a weary traveller can be quite daunting. But those beautiful moments and iconic landmarks at favourite destinations are too precious to be compromised with poor image quality, therefore the need for lugging along the DSLR camera remains. However, with Sony Cyber-shot DSC-QX100 camera lens, taking photos and videos is becoming handier for travellers since it is more travel-friendly and deliver great shooting performance, reducing the need to carry the hefty DSLR.

This disembodied lens functions both independently or by attaching it to your smartphone via Wi-Fi. It can take photos on its own without the need to be attached to a camera body. Each unit comes with a mount that clamps to the backside of a smartphone; however, be mindful that it cannot accommodate phones with large screen or tablets such as 5.7-inch Samsung Galaxy Note 4 which is too big for the camera to attach onto. The whole process of attaching and pairing it to the phone also takes time; but once everything is set, users will soon realise that operating the camera can be quite effortless.

Since the camera features a sleek minimalist design with less buttons and without liquid crystal display, both amateurs and professionals can still utilise their phone screen as the viewfinder for easier shooting. On top of that, users can control it with the latest version of Sony’s PlayMemories Mobile application that enables users to change the shooting modes (Intelligent Auto, Superior Auto, Program Auto, and Aperture Priority), change exposure compensation and aperture, switch from photo to HD video (1440 x 1080), and control other settings.

Cyber-shot DSC-QX100 lens is equipped with a one-inch, 20.9-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor, Bionz image processor, wide-aperture and a stabilised F1.8 lens (28mm to 100mm) with optical zoom. The result? You’ll get great photos (including in low light) with accurate colours and great levels of details. But to us, the most interesting thing about this light disembodied lens is that it opens more creative doors in photography such as offering different vantage point shots during your journey. So wherever your travels may take you, this lens is up to the challenge.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-QX100 lens is available in Malaysia at the suggested retail price of RM1,499 at selected outlets. For more information about the product, visit
