Kuala Lumpur, 23 AUGUST 2018 — W Hotels Worldwide, part of Marriott International, today announced the opening of W Kuala Lumpur — marking the brand’s first foray into Malaysia. Owned by Tropicana Corporation Berhad, W Kuala Lumpur is a highly-anticipated debut that combines the bold, vibrant design and dynamic lifestyle programming that W is known for but with a unique Kuala Lumpur-twist.
Kuala Lumpur – the pulsating capital city of Malaysia – is known for its fast-paced spirit and unwavering attitude, with a sunny tropical temperate and abundant natural foliage. Even within the city center, nature is juxtaposed against architecture with towering skyscrapers emerging from the canopy of green. With “Jungle City” and “Confluence” as W Kuala Lumpur’s overarching design narrative, W Kuala Lumpur celebrates the best of both worlds – an inexhaustible mix of old and new colors, aromas and sounds that blend effortlessly together in a cultural festival for the senses. A distinct design feature at W Kuala Lumpur is the pixel – or dot. It is cleverly integrated throughout the hotel, and is used to create a bigger picture inspired by a broader multicultural Malaysia made up of many ethnicities.
“Kuala Lumpur is one of the most modern cities in Asia. Its passion for What’s New/Next – skyrocketing from its humble heritage as a mining town to a skyline punctuated by skyscrapers, makes it a welcome destination for the W brand,” said Anthony Ingham, Global Brand Leader, W Hotels Worldwide. “Yet, more interestingly, we’re blown away by how the city is moving towards the future while still maintaining its traditional and cultural roots, and that’s what we want to embody at W Kuala Lumpur.”
With Kuala Lumpur’s recognition as a booming cosmopolitan city and the hotel’s take on the Jungle City, W Kuala Lumpur stands in good company across the world-famous Petronas Twin Towers. The SOM (Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP)-designed marvel is set to be another icon in the Kuala Lumpur skyline with its glistening LED fixtures, sharp lines and glass accents.
“The growing demand for luxury travel in Southeast Asia means tourists are constantly looking for non-traditional experiences. With the debut of the W brand in Malaysia, we are set to be the go-to destination for both locals and travelers who are looking for a getaway fueled by the brand’s bold attitude,” said Victor Clavell, Vice President, Luxury, Asia Pacific (excl. China) at Marriott International.
Upon arrival at the hotel’s Porte-cochère, guests are welcomed by larger-than-life traditional batik motifs that blend with sleek metal accents, while remnants of the city’s lush greeneries remain present via the unique bamboo-inspired chandeliers and raw jungle elements. At the Living Room (W’s take on the traditional hotel lobby), jungle accents such as the plateau-like Welcome desks and ceiling representing the topography of Kuala Lumpur, and traditional Malay toy-chandeliers provide a stark contrast to the futuristic LED lights ‘waterfall’ fixtures.
W Kuala Lumpur features 150 stylish guest rooms and suites. This includes two WOW suites and the Extreme WOW Suite, the brand’s lavish take on the traditional presidential suite with a living space of over 520 square meters – bringing a new level of eclectic luxury to the city. All W Kuala Lumpur rooms and suites embody the Jungle City narrative, teaming W essentials such as W signature beds with traditional accents like the indigenous bedside chandeliers and batik motifs.
“Malaysia is rapidly becoming a must-visit spot in the Asia and more so in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur where dynamism is defined,” said Christian Metzner, General Manager, W Kuala Lumpur. “It is not only the Whatever/Whenever service that drives the W brand, delivering whatever our guests want, whenever they want. It is also how the brand’s passion for fashion, music, design and fuel — are celebrated every day that will bring the hotel to life.”
Each W Hotel creates a unique approach to local cuisine, and W Kuala Lumpur brings a flawless synergy to Kuala Lumpur’s hyped food and drink scene with six diverse beverage and food venues. YEN offers an imperial ambience with a contemporary take on traditional Cantonese recipes and a wide selection of fresh seafood. FLOCK is a vibrant all-day-dining restaurant where guests can choose local specialties and Western favourites, spotlighting a farm to flock philosophy. For inventive bar bites and meticulously crafted cocktails, WOOBAR is the chic all-day social space perfect to fuel up and stay longer. Set to be the best spot to see and be seen in Kuala Lumpur, the WET® Deck pool bar features creative concoctions, with breathtaking views of Petronas Twin Towers as its stunning backdrop.
Located within the hotel, W Kuala Lumpur will also feature two privately-managed dining and entertainment venues. SAINT PIERRE is a 70-seater Michelin-starred modern French eatery, while WICKED is set to be the latest VIP club in town, further amplifying Kuala Lumpur’s nightlife.
W Kuala Lumpur adopts a bold approach to elevate events from ordinary to extraordinary. Featuring over 1,500 square meters of function space including the sprawling 1000 square meters GREAT ROOM, W Kuala Lumpur is ready to set the stage for lively and vivid presentations, big conferences, weddings, and product launches.
After a hard day’s work, guests can experience the hotel’s AWAY®Spa. With five treatment rooms, guests can look forward to experiencing massages and treatments, soak in the vitality pools, enjoy chroma-therapy steam baths, bio infrared saunas and its signature tropical experience showers. For complete head-to-toe pampering, the Beauty Bar, a local elite beauty house by 176 Avenue offers manicures and pedicures, as well as hair and eyelash extension services.
