A Girl, a Glamping Trip and a Little Adventure at The Nyaman Place
Who says you need to be an outdoor enthusiast to enjoy a nature getaway? We headed to Hulu Langat for a weekend of greenery, good company, and just the right amount of adventure.
I love nature. The greenery, the fresh air, the sound of a flowing river and the idea of waking up somewhere surrounded by trees. Give me a beautiful outdoor setting and a good cup of coffee, and I’m easily pleased.
But here’s the thing. I love nature, just not necessarily the part where I must sleep on the ground, pitch my own tent, or make friends with every insect in the neighbourhood.
A girl can love nature and still have standards, right?
Which brings me to glamping. All the lovely bits of camping, minus most of the inconveniences. At least, that’s the idea.
So, when the opportunity came to spend a weekend at The Nyaman Place in Hulu Langat, I was more than happy to pack my bags and give it a go. A little greenery, a comfortable place to sleep, and some outdoor fun anyone? Sounds like a pretty good weekend to me!
Hello, Hulu Langat!
Hulu Langat isn’t exactly a stranger to those living in the Klang Valley. It is one of those places people head to when they’re in the mood for a riverside picnic, a quick nature escape, or simply somewhere different to spend the weekend.
But this time, we weren’t there for a picnic.
Tucked away in Kampung Sungai Semungkis, The Nyaman Place offers a different take on the usual outdoor getaway. Think glamping accommodation, nature-inspired surroundings, and a selection of activities for those who fancy doing more than sitting around all day.
Not that there’s anything wrong with sitting around, especially when you’re on holiday.
What I like about the whole glamping concept is that it makes nature a little more approachable. You don’t need to own camping equipment, know how to build a fire, or possess impressive survival skills to enjoy a night outdoors.
The Nyaman Place offers several accommodation options, including its Bulan Dome, Suriya Pod, and Gunung Escape stays, giving visitors different ways to enjoy the retreat.
For someone like me, who appreciates the outdoors but also enjoys a comfortable night’s sleep, that’s a rather appealing proposition.
After all, I came here to enjoy nature, not audition for a survival reality show.
A Little Adventure Never Hurt Anybody
Now, just because I’m not particularly outdoorsy doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy a little adventure.
I simply prefer my adventures in manageable doses.
And there was certainly no shortage of options during our visit.
The afternoon programme, organised as part of Tourism Selangor‘s Surprising Selangor: Let’s Glamping! gathering, featured riding on all-terrain-vehicle (ATV), fishing, river-dipping, and sukaneka kampung (traditional village telematch).
Quite a selection for a weekend getaway.
ATV-riding was among the more adventurous activities on the programme, offering a chance to add a little excitement to the afternoon. It’s the sort of thing that appeals to those who enjoy a bit of action, although I imagine it’s also perfectly acceptable to approach it with a healthy amount of caution.
Then there’s the river.
Personally, I think there’s something lovely about spending time near flowing water. Whether you’re dipping your feet in, taking a refreshing swim, or simply enjoying the surroundings, it’s one of those little pleasures that makes a nature getaway feels worthwhile.
Fishing was another option, although patience has never been my strongest quality. I suspect the fish would have a better chance of enjoying a peaceful afternoon than I would in catching one.
And then came the traditional sukaneka kampung or village telematch.
There’s something wonderfully nostalgic about sukaneka. They’re simple, entertaining, and have a funny way of bringing out everyone’s competitive side.
Suddenly, people who were perfectly composed a few minutes earlier are taking a recreational game very seriously.
Who knew a little friendly competition could be so rousing?
The beauty of having different activities available is that there’s something for everyone. You can be adventurous, take things slowly, or find a comfortable middle ground.
I happen to like the middle ground.
Glamping After Dark
If there’s one thing I enjoy as much as a beautiful outdoor setting, it’s a good evening with good food.
And our night at The Nyaman Place came with a few extra surprises.
After an afternoon of activities, it was time to freshen up and get ready for dinner. Our visit coincided with Tourism Selangor’s outdoor gathering, which meant the evening wasn’t quite your typical glamping night.
For starters, there was a Flora and Fauna dress theme.
Now, that’s a theme I can get behind. Flowers, leaves, tropical prints, and all things nature-inspired? At least we had a good excuse to dress up a little.
Dinner came in the form of a barbecue, which felt perfectly appropriate for the setting.
But the real treat was the entertainment.
The evening featured the Surprising Selangor Acoustic Showcase, with performances by Aizat Amdan, Bunga, Layla Sania, and Mohsein Kush.
Yes, actual live performances during a glamping getaway!
I had come prepared for a weekend in nature, not a mini music festival, but I certainly wasn’t complaining.
There were also fire show, bonfire activities, and games to keep the evening going.
And just when you might think it was time to call it a night, there was a movie session with late-night snacks.
It was the sort of evening that offered a little bit of everything, from good food and music to the simple pleasure of spending time outdoors with good company.
Of course, the performances and themed dinner were specially arranged for the Tourism Selangor programme, rather than part of an ordinary stay at the retreat.
Still, the experience shows just how enjoyable outdoor gatherings can be when the setting and the company are right.
Mornings Are Better with a View
I have a soft spot for slow mornings.
The kind where there’s no urgent need to get dressed, no traffic to worry about, and no reason to rush through breakfast.
And while I admire people who can wake up at the crack of dawn, put on their hiking shoes, and enthusiastically head into the jungle, I can’t promise I’ll always be one of them.
Our second morning at The Nyaman Place came with a programme of sunrise viewing, morning exercise, and jungle-trekking.
For the more energetic guests, it was a chance to make the most of the natural surroundings before breakfast.
For those who prefer something less demanding, the idea of simply enjoying a quiet morning at a nature retreat is equally tempting.
That’s what I find appealing about glamping. It doesn’t have to be all action, all the time.
You can enjoy the outdoors without feeling obliged to conquer a mountain before lunch.
Sometimes, a pleasant morning, a nice breakfast, and a little time away from your usual routine are more than enough.
And really, isn’t that what a getaway is supposed to be about?
One Last Stop Before Heading Home
All good getaways eventually come to an end, although ours had one more stop before we returned home.
After checking out of The Nyaman Place, we headed to Chongkak Park & Resort, a short drive away, for the HUTAN HUTAN event.
Here, the programme included a sound bath experience by The Singing Muna.
Now, before anyone gets too excited about another opportunity to get into the water, a sound bath actually doesn’t involve taking a bath with water.
I know. Slightly misleading name.
Instead, it’s an immersive, relaxation practice that uses resonant sounds and vibrations to create a calming atmosphere.
Compared with the previous day’s outdoor games and evening entertainment, this was a rather different way to experience nature.
No racing around, no competitive games, and certainly no need to prove how adventurous you are.
Just an opportunity to slow down and enjoy something a little different.
And after a weekend with so much going on, a quieter activity seemed like a fitting way to round things off.
So, Is The Nyaman Place Worth a Visit?
If you ask me, the appeal of The Nyaman Place lies in its combination of nature, comfort and opportunities for outdoor recreation.
It’s not somewhere you need to visit with a packed itinerary or a long list of activities to complete.
You can plan a weekend filled with outdoor fun or keep things simple and enjoy the change of scenery.
For families, it offers an alternative to the usual hotel getaway. For groups of friends, it’s an opportunity to spend time together somewhere different. And for couples who enjoy a little greenery and a quieter setting, it could make for a lovely short escape.
What makes it even more appealing is its location in Hulu Langat, within relatively easy reach of the Klang Valley.
No airport queues, no luggage allowance to worry about, and no need to spend half your holiday travelling.
Just pack a bag, gather your favourite people, and head out for a little nature-inspired break.
As for me, this trip hasn’t exactly transformed me into a fearless outdoor adventurer.
I still like my comfortable bed. I still prefer a leisurely morning to an exhausting hike. And I’m still not particularly interested in discovering how many insects can fit inside a tent.
But would I go glamping again?
Absolutely.
Especially if it comes with beautiful surroundings, good food, a little adventure, and enough comfort to keep everyone happy.
Because as much as I love getting close to nature, I don’t necessarily need to get that close.
And The Nyaman Place sounds like just the sort of compromise I can happily live with…
