Hear some of the world’s finest contemporary artists at Soulfest Asia 2015 as Australia’s only Neo-Soul, Jazz and Hip-Hop festival makes its way down to Malaysia for the first time this year! Soulnation Asia Sdn Bhd is excited to announce the inaugural launch of Soulfest Asia. Revealing their first artist announcement at the Soulfest Asia press conference held at Beast by BIG, it’s time for discerning music lovers in the South East Asian region to rejoice!
This amazing urban music festival debuted in Australia and New Zealand last year in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Auckland. With Aloe Blacc, Common, Mos Def and D’Angelo as headliners, it comes as no surprise that its first appearance saw tens of thousands of music lovers come together peacefully to celebrate their passion for soul and hip-hop.
Soulfest is a boutique music festival and caters to fans of groove music who are tired of stuffy, hot, outdoor festivals and looking for a comfortable night of musical enjoyment. The vibe and ambience of Soulfest emulates the passionate rhythms attributed to Soul, R&B and Hip-Hop music that resonates with audiophiles looking to loosen up, cut a rug and unwind. Authentic soul food paired with musicians looking to simply have a good time, proves to be a winning combination for lovers of groove.
“We are thoroughly excited to be able to bring in these legendary hip-hop, soul and R&B acts to Malaysia. We have worked very hard to create a balanced line-up comprising of not just legendary, award winning acts but also some of today’s hottest new urban music artistes. Knowing that Malaysia has a growing following of these genres, together with our partners at Soulfest International (Australia) we are happy to say that we hear you and only hope that you are as excited as we are”, Adib Khalid of Soulnation Asia.
The first edition of Soulfest Asia will be indoors and fully air-conditioned, taking place at the Mines International Convention Centre (MICC) on 17 October 2015. Come rain or shine, the festival is scheduled to kick off at 3pm with the rhythm flowing all the way to midnight. Soulfest Asia’s debut will see three music areas featuring the Queen of Hip-Hop and urban music, Mary J. Blige and Grammy nominated Jhene Aiko, as well as Hip-Hop favourites Talib Kweli and De La Soul, together with Joe Flizzow and his entire Kartel family, soul singer Najwa and hip hop collective Raising The Bar live on stage. True to the title with the Asia moniker, Soulfest Asia will also feature regional superstars such as Singapore’s hugely in demand rapper, Shigga Shay. Many more international, regional and local acts are to be announced over the next few weeks!
In support of the local Malaysian music scene, Soulfest Asia together with partner Tune Studios will be on a soul searching mission for talented local artists, one of whom will get the opportunity to perform on the Soulfest Asia stage!
“Our aim for Soulfest Asia is to be more than just a music festival. It is also about the betterment of the local community as a whole and not just the music community. Apart from finding and recognising local talents, The Soul Sisters Package is a show of support of Malaysia’s Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO), a non-profit organisation that is close to our hearts. We will also have a designated area within the festival grounds for our partners to create social awareness and encourage everyone to soothe their souls,” said Leshanth Raja Singam from Soulnation Asia
Besides good music and good vibes, Soulfest Asia will also feature an expansive array of tantalizing cuisine featuring authentic Soulfood and pop-up eateries created and curated by the BIG Group.
Soulfest Asia’s full line-up is a world exclusive under one billing. Soulfest Asia 2015 is organized by Soulfest International Private Limited (Australia) and Soul Nation Asia Sdn. Bhd. and is supported by Malaysia’s Ministry of Tourism and Culture.
