Theme Parks Account For Nearly Four In 10 Malaysians’ Year-End Experience Bookings On Klook

KUALA LUMPUR, 5 November 2026 – With the year-end holidays approaching, booking data from Klook, a leading pan-regional experiences platform in Asia Pacific, reveals where Malaysian travellers are heading and the experiences they are choosing for their upcoming getaways. Japan remains Malaysians’ top overseas destination, accounting for nearly one in three bookings (31.2%), followed by Mainland China and South Korea. Beyond traditional favourites, Busan and Osaka are also attracting strong interest, while destinations closer to home remain popular choices for year-end getaways.

Beyond the capitals: Busan runs close behind Seoul, while Osaka rivals Tokyo

When it comes to South Korea, Seoul remains the most-booked city among Malaysian travellers, accounting for 37.0% of bookings, ahead of Busan at 35.0%. In Japan, Tokyo narrowly remains the top choice with 25.6% of bookings, followed closely by Osaka at 24.8% — the highest Osaka booking share among the six markets analysed.

“Malaysian travellers are showing a strong appetite for adventurous and experience-filled year-end getaways,” said Sarah Wan, General Manager for Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam, Klook. “We’re seeing strong interest in cities like Busan and Osaka as travellers explore experiences beyond traditional capitals. Closer to home: Malaysia’s favourite family-friendly experiences

Domestic getaways remain a popular choice for year-end travel, with Malaysia accounting for 15.5% of total bookings made by Malaysian travellers. Beyond Kuala Lumpur, destinations such as Subang Jaya, Genting Highlands, Langkawi and Ipoh are among the most-booked local spots.

Family-friendly attractions are particularly popular, with nearly all water park bookings made by Malaysian travellers taking place domestically, alongside 83% of playground bookings and 68% of zoo and animal park bookings.

Theme parks lead Malaysians’ year-end experience bookings

Theme parks lead the way among Malaysian travellers’ year-end experiences, accounting for 38.8% of all experience bookings, nearly three times the next most-booked experience, tours (13.3%). Japan accounts for the largest share of Malaysian theme park bookings at 50%, followed by Mainland China at 20%. Water parks also stand out, making up 7.0% of Malaysian experience bookings — the third most-booked experience overall.

Beyond Japan, Mainland China is also a major draw for Malaysians’ year-end plans. It ranks as their second most-booked overseas destination, with Shanghai (34.4%) and Beijing (28.1%) leading the way. Theme parks are a big part of the pull, making up about one in three Malaysian bookings to Mainland China, highlighting its appeal for theme park getaways.
