AirAsia Named World’s Best Low-Cost Airline for 17th Consecutive Year
LONDON, September 18 – AirAsia has been named the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline for the 17th consecutive year at the 2026 Skytrax World Airline Awards, as the airline marks 25 years of making air travel more accessible and affordable.
The award is based on the independent annual World Airline Survey, which collects votes from travellers worldwide. Skytrax said the survey is independently conducted without entry or registration fees being charged to airlines.
Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, AirAsia Co-Founder, accepted the award on behalf of the airline during the ceremony.
“We started AirAsia 25 years ago with a simple mission: to make flying accessible to more people,” he said.
“To see how far we’ve come, and to still be trusted by travellers around the world today, is something we’re incredibly proud of.”
Bo Lingam, Group CEO of AirAsia Group, said the recognition reflected continued support from passengers and the efforts of the airline’s employees.
“This recognition is a vote of confidence from our guests, and we’re grateful for their continued trust and support,” he said.
Lingam said the award came as the aviation industry faced uncertainty and geopolitical challenges, adding that AirAsia would continue expanding across Asean and beyond.
Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax, congratulated AirAsia on receiving the award for a record 17th time.
He said the achievement demonstrated the airline’s focus on providing quality and affordable travel options in an increasingly competitive low-cost airline market.
AirAsia has grown from a single low-cost airline into a global low-cost network carrier over the past 25 years, connecting millions of passengers across Asia and beyond.
The airline said it has continued to develop its network and travel experience while maintaining its focus on accessible and affordable air travel.
The 2026 Skytrax World Airline Awards also named AirAsia the top low-cost airline in Asia.
