Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur Brings Cheer to a Local Orphanage

Last 25 March 2015, Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur paid a visit to Rumah Ilham Yayasan Anak-anak Yatim Pinggir Taman Tun Dr Ismail (PTTDI) to contribute towards the maintenance of the home for the children’s well-being, besides celebrating the orphans’ birthday,  as part of the organisation’s efforts in giving back to those in need while inculcating the spirit of community service among its personnel.

A team of 25 associates headed by the Safety and Security Department of Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur got together and spent a day at Rumah Ilham in efforts to spread some love and care while working hand-in-hand to upkeep the home and its surrounding compound. The volunteers were divided into five groups. Each group was given a task to focus on such as painting, repairing the compound and sprucing up the prayer room.

Besides the maintenance works, the itinerary of this visit also included a lunch session which the associates had planned for the children. A sumptuous buffet lunch was prepared with love by the hotel’s kitchen for the occasion. Additionally, to make this event extra special, the associates also threw a mini celebration for the children whose birthdays were in March. A delectable Fruit Cream Cake from the hotel’s Big Apple Restaurant was presented by the team to add to the merriment of the occasion.

The day continued with the associates mingling and engaging with the children. They shared stories and took pictures with the children. Mondi Mecja, General Manager of Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur said, “I believe that we are here to play an active role in the community. Hence, it is always the best when we give back to the underprivileged children to remind them that they are always remembered, loved and very much part of the community.” Before concluding the visit, Datuk Hj. Hasanuddin Ali, Chairman of Rumah Ilham presented a token of appreciation to the General Manager.

Yayasan Anak-anak Yatim PTTDI is a non-governmental organisation. The home where they are housed, Rumah Ilham, was established in 1999 and it provides shelter, food, counseling and education for the underprivileged children. The home accommodates 50 children aged between 10 and 14 years old.
