Malaysia Airlines, Tourism New Zealand Boost Travel Demand
KUALA LUMPUR, May 5, 2026 — Malaysia Airlines and Tourism New Zealand have formalised a two-year strategic partnership aimed at driving travel demand and strengthening connectivity between Kuala Lumpur and Auckland.
The collaboration will focus on integrated marketing initiatives designed to elevate New Zealand’s visibility across key markets while encouraging more visitors from Asia and beyond. The joint campaign targets experience-driven travellers, including young professionals, group travellers, nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers.
Through the partnership, both organisations will spotlight New Zealand’s diverse offerings, from dramatic landscapes and cultural heritage to wellness retreats, culinary experiences and outdoor adventures. The initiative reflects a shared commitment to boosting visitor arrivals and enhancing the destination’s global appeal.
As the only premium carrier offering direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Auckland, Malaysia Airlines continues to play a pivotal role in connecting travellers to New Zealand. The airline currently operates 10 weekly flights on the route using its A330neo aircraft, offering enhanced comfort and improved travel efficiency.
Bryan Foong, CEO of Airline Business at Malaysia Aviation Group, said the partnership reflects the growing relationship between Malaysia and New Zealand, underpinned by tourism, trade and people-to-people ties.
“This collaboration allows us to connect Asia and beyond to Aotearoa while delivering our signature Malaysian Hospitality,” he said. “Together, we aim to inspire more travellers to experience the beauty, culture and warmth of New Zealand.”
Angela Blair, general manager international at Tourism New Zealand, said the partnership comes amid rising demand from Malaysian travellers.
“As of February 2026, New Zealand welcomed 32,200 visitors from Malaysia over the past year, marking an 11.5% year-on-year increase,” she said. “This growth highlights the strong appeal of New Zealand and the impact of increased connectivity.”
The initiative aligns with broader efforts to position New Zealand as a top long-haul destination, supported by improved flight capacity and targeted campaigns encouraging meaningful travel experiences.
