Okayama Lures Muslim Tourists
Kuala Lumpur, 15 November 2016 – Okayama City, together with leading Kuala Lumpur-based travel agency Corporate Information Travel (CIT) Sdn Bhd launched Okayama Style Health Tourism Project, targetted towards the Muslim market in Malaysia and Indonesia. Okayama city, including Maniwa city and Kibichuo town, signs the memorandum of understanding with CIT to promote the destination.
Okayama City, being the capital of Okayama Prefecture, is located in the south-central area and has mild climate, ideal for cultivating the prefecture’s famous peaches. Maniwa city – popular for its hot springs and snow in winter – is located in the north-central area of Okayama Prefecture, while Kibichuo town – where Japan’s first halal certified rice flour and bread factories are located – is largely rural yet just a short drive from Okayama City. Interestingly, Okayama Prefecture experiences low risk of natural disaster since it does not sit on any faultline, besides being renowned as Hare-no-Kuni (Land of Sunshine).

Okayama tourism owners and operators painstakingly provide facilities for Muslim travellers to meet their demands such as prayer rooms and qibla compass, including halal-certified restaurants and halal-friendly cuisine. The prefecture is set to become one of the hottest destinations among Muslim travellers to Japan due to its safe location, healthy halal-friendly gastronomic offerings, panoramic landscapes and quintessential Japanese hospitality.
