A Delegation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Jordan Tourism Board Visits Malaysia to Discuss Mechanisms for Increasing the Number of Malaysian Students in Jordanian Universities
A delegation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Jordan Tourism Board has concluded an official working visit to Malaysia, during which possible mechanisms were discussed to increase the number of Malaysian students studying in Jordanian higher education institutions, whether self-funded or sponsored by the Malaysian government.
The delegation included Mr. Muhannad Al-Khatib, Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research/Director of the Unified Admissions Coordination Unit; Mr. Fadi Al-Rousan, Director of the International Students Affairs Unit at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research; and Mr. Abdullah Krishan, Head of the Educational Tourism Unit at Jordan Tourism Board. The delegation was also accompanied by Dr. Ridzuan Abdul Rashid, Director of the Malaysian Cultural Attaché in Amman.
The delegation conducted introductory workshops on studying in Jordan for hundreds of Malaysian high school students in several Malaysian states. During the visit, the delegation also met with directors and board members of scholarship bodies in the states of Pahang and Sabah, as well as the Minister of Science and Technology of Sabah. The Jordanian delegation highlighted the key advantages of Jordan in general and Jordanian higher education institutions in particular, which serve as attractive factors for increasing the enrolment of international/non-Jordanian students in Jordanian universities. These advantages include the academic excellence of universities, the progress of Jordanian universities in global rankings for 2025, the reputation of their graduates, and the introduction of new specializations aligned with labor market developments and considered future fields.
Additionally, the delegation emphasized that official Jordanian universities treat students from non-Arabic-speaking Muslim nations, who wish to study Arabic language or Islamic Sharia disciplines, as Jordanian students in terms of tuition fees. They also highlighted Jordan’s unique tourist attractions. Furthermore, the delegation provided a detailed explanation of the unified electronic admission system for international students, which was launched by the ministry for the first time at the beginning of the current academic year. This system allows international students to secure admission to one of Jordan’s official higher education institutions from their home country without the need for intermediaries, saving them considerable time, effort, and money.
During the visit, multiple mechanisms were discussed to increase the number of Malaysian students in Jordanian universities and to facilitate solutions to any potential challenges they might face.
The delegation also visited several Malaysian universities to explore cooperation mechanisms, including student and faculty exchange programs with Jordanian universities. In addition, the delegation met with the Jordanian Ambassador to Malaysia, Dr. Ismail Al-Maaytah, and Deputy Ambassador Mr. Bilal Al-Nsour at the Jordanian embassy in Kuala Lumpur, where they discussed key proposals for improving promotional and recruitment efforts in Malaysia. The delegation expressed appreciation for the Jordanian embassy’s efforts and the logistical support it provided to facilitate the mission.
This visit aligns with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s implementation of its international student recruitment strategy for 2023-2024 in collaboration with its strategic partner Jordan Tourism Board. This strategy, approved by the Council of Ministers, includes field visits to several Arab and foreign countries that are considered target markets for increasing the enrolment of international students in Jordanian universities.
It is worth noting that the number of Malaysian students currently enrolled in Jordanian higher education institutions has increased at the beginning of the 2024-2025 academic year to 2,150 students. Meanwhile, the total number of international/non-Jordanian students studying in various Jordanian higher education institutions has reached 51,647 students from 113 countries worldwide.
