Known as the gateway to the wonderful islands of Semporna, Tawau is a must-visit not only for diving enthusiasts, but for the sun and sea lovers as well. Most popular on the list is the famed Sipadan Island, ranked as one of the best diving spots in the world. Mabul and Pom Pom islands are great getaways for families and young travellers, while the resort islands of Kapalai and Mataking are great for honeymoons. Around the quaint city of Tawau itself, travellers can visit the Teck Guan Cocoa Museum, go for a picnic or camp at Tawau Hills Park, or enjoy a scrumptious meal of Nasi Kuning – a must-try food in Tawau.
