BCorp Founder Contributes RM20.08 million to 79 Charity Organisations

Berjaya Corporation Berhad (“BCorp”) continued its charitable contributions during the 5th Berjaya Founder’s Day celebration in Berjaya Times Square on 28 March 2015.  BCorp founder, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Vincent Tan (“TSVT”) contributed a total of RM20.08 million to 79 charity organisations through his personal foundation, Better Malaysia Foundation and Berjaya Cares Foundation respectively. Together with the Founder’s Day contributions in the past 4 years, TSVT and Berjaya have contributed a total of RM84.08 million to various charity organisations in support of their respective causes.

Berjaya Founder’s Day was first celebrated in 2011 to honour TSVT for his success and accomplishments towards the BCorp Group since its inception 31 years ago as well as his philanthropic efforts. This year’s contributions will be given to charitable organisations that support community, education, health causes, local performing arts, environmental awareness, international humanitarian aid, and animal causes.

The theme for the 5th Berjaya Founder’s Day 2015 is ‘Let’s Go – Plant a Seed of Love’. A theme that encourages every individual, especially the youth, to take a step forward in volunteerism and contribute their time, skills and talent towards a good cause and make a difference within their communities.

Berjaya Founder’s Day is also dedicated to all BCorp employees for their continuous support and dedication towards the Group. More than 20,000 BCorp Group employees and their families attended the family day carnival at Berjaya Times Square which had more than 50 food and games booths, as well as 35 charitable organisations’ booths which provided insight and awareness into their respective causes.

BCorp’s consumer companies, Kenny Rogers Roasters, Starbucks Coffee, Papa John’s Pizza, Wendy’s, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Jollibean, Rasa Utara, RadioShack and Borders Books in Berjaya Times Square also extended special discounts to members of the public during Founder’s Day. The Berjaya Times Square Theme Park was a popular draw with more than 12,000 Berjaya employees and family members thronging the theme park to enjoy the thrilling rides. Another highlight of the day was the giant dragon cake which stood grandly at the Ground Floor Central area. The cake was exclusively crafted using imported chocolate by Berjaya Hotels & Resorts. 15,000 pieces of cake were cut from the giant cake and served to the public who were present at the mall.

Titled ‘Growing the Legacy of Care’, the book chronicles his success and contributions towards the many charitable causes which TSVT and Berjaya have supported in the last 5 years. The book also pays tribute to the founder, staff and volunteers of the many charitable organisations that TSVT and BCorp support for their altruistic contributions.

The afternoon continued with many exciting activities presented by Berjaya Youth (“BYouth”), a youth platform initiated by BCorp. Among them were the ROASTERS Frenzy Challenge, Papa John’s Pizza Eating Competition and the Borders’ Spelling Bee Contest. There were also inspirational talks by Razif Hashim, actor, TV presenter and entrepreneur; Davina Goh, actress, writer and radio announcer; and a beatbox performance by Cody “Coex”, a 5-time beatbox champion and leading pioneer in Southeast Asia’s vocal percussion scene.
