More Choice, Larger Meals and Improved Service for Millions of Qantas Economy Customers

Hong Kong, 6th February 2015: – Qantas Economy customers will soon be able to enjoy a new inflight dining experience, set to re-define their travel experience on flights between Hong Kong and Australia.

Launching next week on all Qantas’ Hong Kong flights,  in time for the peak Chinese New Year travel period , the new experience will allow customers to enjoy a wider choice of meals, fifty per cent larger servings and faster service.

Qantas International Head of Customer Experience & Creative Development, Kylie Morris, said the dining experience will set a new standard for the five million Economy customers travelling across the airline’s international network each year.

“Our team of food and beverage experts spent 12 months researching and developing the new menu and service to deliver what we believe to be the best inflight economy dining experience offered by any international carrier,” said Ms Morris.

“The new menu offers more generous meals and an increase from two to four meal options. We also have new meal categories, including a healthy option, comfort food and a meal inspired by the route itself, such as Stir fried pork with plum sauce and egg fried rice on our Hong Kong flights.

“We have extended our Select on Q Eat service to Economy passengers enabling them to pre-order their meal online with access to an exclusive dish as the fourth dish.

“Together with new serving plates, which remove the need for trays, our crew will be able to serve and clear meals up to 30 minutes faster giving them more time to interact and assist passengers,” added Ms Morris.

This season’s menu for flights from Hong Kong to Australia offers customers the choice of the following options:

  • Roasted five spice duck salad with glass noodles and a soy and sesame dressing.
  • Pan fried dory with dill cream sauce, mash potatoes, carrots and garden peas.
  • Chicken with black beans, fried rice and pak choy.

On the return, Hokkien noodles and vegetable dumplings, Weis ice cream and fresh fruit are among the continuous grazing options. Shortly after take-off passengers will be served a welcome drink from Australian cordial supplier Bickford’s signature range, featuring flavours exclusive to Qantas such as Lemon & Elderflower, and Pink Grapefruit.

“In delivering the new service Qantas engages with local suppliers in each region to source the freshest produce and deliver a range of diverse dishes inspired by the destination,” said Ms Morris.

A team of Qantas food and beverage experts spent 12 months researching and developing the new menu and service, speaking with customers, visiting local producers and suppliers and researching food and dining trends. Trials were run on a number of international flights and customer satisfaction on those flights almost doubled, hitting record highs.

Together with the rollout of the upgraded A330 aircraft on flights from Asia to Australia,- featuring lie-flat Marc Newson-designed Business Suites, new model Recaro seats in Economy and more advanced inflight entertainment– the new Economy dining experience on Hong Kong routes reinforces Qantas’ commitment to travellers in the region, positioning the airline as the premium carrier of choice for flights to Australia.

Select on Q-Eat is available on flights departing Australia, and will be introduced progressively on inbound flights from Hong Kong to Australia in coming months.
