In a remote area of Malaysia, high up in the temperate mountains of Pahang, The Chateau rises up amidst the thick tropical rainforest literally like a castle right out of a fairytale! Deemed the world’s first organic wellness destination, The Chateau is a spa resort that is serious about making every guest feel like royalty. Now, here’s a castle that Rapunzel wouldn’t mind being holed-up in!

Unlike a day spa where you pop in for a couple of hours to get pummeled, rubbed and patted, then pop out, The Chateau embraces you in a warm, slightly French welcome, pampers your body, soul and palate until you never want to leave. It’s a welcome reprieve for stressed out city folks wanting a quick weekend escape, and a peaceful sanctuary to simply relax and convalesce for as long as you want.

While the architecture (modeled after an 18th century French castle), refreshing scenery,  attentive staff and delicate gourmet food (served on fine Wedgwood designed by America’s darling, Vera Wang, no less), all combine to make for a luxurious stay, it is the spa facility and exquisite service that will linger on in memory long after the last farewell.

A holistic approach
At the heart of The Chateau is La Santé, a full-service spa facility that hopes to initiate the wellbeing transformation of its guests with a holistic wellness programme that embraces nutrition, fitness and spa in a gentle and natural way.

One particular body steam treatment is conducted in a salt grotto that’s embellished with sparkling Swarovskis. So as you perspire away the toxins – and in this writer’s case, 20 years of accumulated fat – in a 45 degree Celsius chamber, lust away over the dazzling display of crystals.

Personalised wellbeing
While there are dozens of a la carte spa and wellness treatments to indulge in at The Chateau, it’s best to just sign up for one of their themed all-inclusive packages with meals, accommodation, spa treatments and wellness programmes all thought out for you. The Wellness Getaway is a two-day package with gentle yoga, facial, massage, sauna and steam sessions. You also get to enjoy organic meals, tea time treats and a special nightcap.

For longer stays, consider the seven-night Total Beauty package to trim and sculpt your body with various massages, body wraps and scrubs, complete with pampering mani-pedi-hair styling sessions on top of nutritional consultation and fitness programmes.

There are even packages for couples to reconnect with each other not only through the spa sessions but also through the suggested outdoor activities such as horseback riding; couples also benefit from a special relationship enhancement session.

Some of the more unique packages The Chateau has tailor-made for guests are the pre- and post-natal packages for mothers to balance their mind and body during this life-changing time; and the Fit For Life programme for those wanting to enhance their strength and endurance (one particular athlete signed up for this last package as preparation for a marathon).

Going organic
The Chateau prides itself in providing guests a complete organic experience, too. The resort grows its own herbs and vegetables for use in food preparation; bed linens are made of 100% organic cotton; in-room snacks and beverages are made of organic ingredients; and bath products are by VOYA, renowned for their hand-harvested, mineral-rich seaweed-based toiletries.

The five restaurants and lounges resort-wide offer organic selections of wines, non-alcoholic beverages, and gourmet cuisine. Whether it is fine French cuisine for dinner at the award-winning L’assiette, fresh and healthy meals at La Vie for lunch, or exquisite breakfasts and high teas at Belle Vue, dining is a truly sensorial experience further enhanced by exceptional service. Each time a plate of food is placed on your table, the waiter goes into great detail explaining about the ingredients and cooking methods used.

Being part of the Berjaya Group, The Chateau occupies prime land at Bukit Tinggi, Pahang, where other properties by the group are also located. A stay at The Chateau can easily be combined with visits to the nearby facilities and properties operated by the group, i.e. the 18-hole Berjaya Hills Golf and Country Club; a Japanese Village with an authentic Japanese tea house and the only Japanese restaurant located within a tropical forest; a botanical garden where you might be able to see Tiger Orchids or the rare Rafflesia in full bloom; Colmar Tropicale, a French village-styled resort suitable for families; an organic farm; a horse riding centre and the adventure park where eco-recreational such as flying fox and rock climbing can be arranged.

Despite its remoteness, The Chateau is only a 45 minutes’ drive away from Kuala Lumpur, thus making it the perfect escape for stressed out city folks. The only thing is, after a weekend of pampering at this French castle, you won’t be looking forward to checking out and facing the wicked witch of reality!
