Kuala Lumpur – September 23, 2013 – Mid-autumn celebration this year was done in a slightly bigger scale this year. On September 19 both Concorde Hotel Kuala Lumpur and Saloma Theatre Restaurant organized a colourful affair, which began with cocktail, dinner and a special ‘showtime’ at Saloma, Jalan Ampang.
The mid-autumn or mooncake festival gathering was held for third time by Concorde’s management. This time around, Saloma joined too, bringing together friends from various travel agencies and corporate companies. More than 200 guests joined the celebration which was held on the mid-autumn’s actual day, the 15th day of the 8th lunar month.
Present at the event were Concorde/Saloma owner, Tan Sri Syed Yusof Tun Syed Nasir, Saloma’s Director, Datin Fatin Fatiha and Concorde’s General Manager, Gary Lee. That evening, Gary Lee thanked loyal supporters for their support in making Concorde a market leader in mooncake business this year. The perfect occasion gave the opportunity for another announcement. He announced the joint venture with Bibik Kim Neo (Masterchef Datuk Kenny Chan). Come November 1, Nyonya/Peranakan cuisine from Melaka –Saloma’s new lunch ‘feature’ will be available. Authentic Nyonya cuisine served as set lunches as well as ‘hidang’ style. Saloma’s culinary team had already begun working together in the kitchen with Masterchef Datuk Kenny Chan mastering their skills in Nyonya cooking.
The speech was short allowing guests to tuck into the delicious Nyonya food prepared by Saloma team and Datuk Kenny Chan. Dishes were served ‘hidang’ style at every table, amongst the items were Nyonya chicken roll, popiah goreng, heepio soup, venison sek bak, chicken pong teh, sambal brinjal, prawn and pineapple curry and cincalok omelette. Separate stalls in the hall had more Nyonya offerings – Nyonya laksa, pie tee, assorted kueh and Nyonya cendol. There was also a queue at the mooncake section. Concorde’s Dim Sum Chef Ng Meng Loong showcased new flavours, new designs specially for the festival.
Befitting the theme ‘Good Food, Good Times’, guests truly enjoyed the food and the entertainment line-up! A 4-piece Peranakan band from Melaka entertained guests taking turns with resident singer/pianist, Kevin Ong and Theresa. In the middle of the performances, a special slot reserved for Bibik Kim Neo and Nyonya Fern comedy act. Together they delivered old folkfore, jokes and led ‘joget’ party with guests. Overall the mid-autumn celebration this year successfully merry together oriental elements with Nyonya/Peranakan, evident in the decorations, food and music.
The evening casual affair saw travel agents, corporate guests and Xin Cuisine’s supporters chatting away, mingling whilst enjoying the wonderful food spread. JTB, SMI Holiday, Fu Sin Tours, Mayflower ACME, Aspen, Tour 51, Asia Experience, Discovery Overland and many other guests from the travel fraternity were all present. As for corporate, guests from Sojitz, PPB Oil Palms, Taylor Nelson Sofres, HSBC and Malaysia Tourism Centre (MaTiC) took time off to be at Saloma.
