Japan Design Week is an original Design Week that originates from Tokyo, but has expanded to around 1,800 municipalities in Japan. The aim is simple: to showcase the local creative talents including musical, performing and visual arts. Recently, the festival took place at Hot Spring Park Ureshino, Saga on November 10th to 12th, 2017, and naturally was called as Ureshino Design Week 2017.
Organised for the second time, this year’s Ureshino Design Week 2017 was also held in conjunction with the “Ureshino tea time”, featuring not only local specialities but also exciting performances from popular artists.
Day 1: The Ureshino Conference and “One Tea One Sweet” session (featuring Ureshino tea and confectionery) were held.
Participants exchanged views on the Ureshino Hot Spring Resort, one of Japan’s three most famous skin-beautifying hot spring resorts, while having Ureshino Tea, Japan’s first steaming coiled green tea.
Day 2: Concert by local stars
The first artist was Hanawa whom catapulted into fame after his first single “Saga Prefecture” which was released in 2003. Last year, the audiences were moved to tears after he performed “Father-in-law”, a song that he wrote as a gift for his wife. Then, local idols Pinky Sky and Ringo Musume (Aomori local idol), National idols AKB48 Team 8 took the stage by performing the famous song “Heavy Rotation”. The concert concluded with a Tsugaru shamisen performance by a collaboration between Motoki Morinaga and Kazuo Shibutani together with Tsugaru flute players, Kazuya Sato and Bunta Sato. After Onwasai, Pihyara ceremony was held where artists as well as local people walked together through Ureshino town while they sang the world’s famous sukiyaki song together with the local students’ concert band.
