Melaka, Malaysia, 6th November 2012 – In celebration of the Festival of Lights, Philea Resort and Spa gets into the spirit of the festivities by decorating a vibrant coloured peacock kolam or rangoli at the center of the resort lobby.

Widely practiced by Hindus all over the world, kolam is a decorative artwork drawn on the floor using colored rice by female members of the family for Deepavali and display in front of a home. The kolam is drawn to welcome Lakshmi, the Goddess of abundance and manifest beauty, who will bestow her blessings upon its many inmates and the people who pass them by.

“Growing up in India, it’s a tradition to display kolam in front of our house in conjunction with Diwali celebration. However, I still practice this tradition after migrating to United Kingdom and even my daughter is now learning to wear ‘sarees’ as well during Diwali”, mentioned Mrs Mistry who hails from the United Kingdom and enjoyed decorating the Kolam with our fellow colleagues while she was here spending her holiday with her husband.

“We decided to go for peacock kolam as the bird was a sacred symbol for Deepavali. We took about five hours to complete the whole peacock kolam together with our team from various departments such as Front Office, Food and Beverage, Administrative Office and not forgetting our guests.

In keeping with the spirit of Deepavali, or the festival of lights, we created kolam every year as it truly portrayed the vibrant and festive mood of the occasion and most of all, we believe in celebrating the difference.

This 5-star multi-award winning resort offers three varieties of rooms to suit different tastes. With a total of 201 rooms, which consist of 180 units of Pavilion Rooms, 19 units of Philea Suites and two units of Royal Villas, each block was built using pine logs specifically designed to resemble a village with panoramic views of the whole resort.

The stunning effect resulted in Philea being awarded as the ‘First Log Resort’ and the ‘Largest Log Resort’ by the Malaysia Book of Records; the ‘Best Green Hotel’ by Melaka Tourism Association; ‘Creative Brand Industry of the Year’ by Global Golden Brand Award; ‘Excellent Award for Landscape Design and Planning’ by Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia (ILAM) and most recently ‘Top 10 Eco-Friendly Hotels 2012’ by Agoda.com, Asia’s leading hotel booking site.

All in all, it can’t be completed without teamwork”, mentioned Connie Chin, Director of Marketing Communications of Philea Resort and Spa Melaka.
