Poised to open its doors on 30 November 2018 as Kuala Lumpur’s only member of The Leading Hotels of the World (LHW), The RuMa Hotel and Residences by Urban Resort Concepts (URC) is primed to craft a cultural revival in the heart of Malaysia’s capital city.

Borrowing from the expansive and inspirational history of Malaysia, The RuMa hotel reimagines the local with the contemporary while paying homage to its destination, welcoming guests to journey into the culture and heritage of Kuala Lumpur, both historical and of the modern day.

The hotel’s interior design will not only reflect URC’s signature design principles, seamlessly infusing luxurious and understated metaphorical design throughout a modern space uniquely crafted with cultural influences, it will also showcase the creations of iconic local designers Dato’ Sri Bernard Chandran and Joe Chia.

Further enriching The RuMa’s design DNA which positions every visual detail as a story waiting to be told, Dato’ Sri Bernard Chandran’s grand “Kebayaku” showpiece is the central focus of the lobby, flanked by a majestic double spiral staircase and created exclusively for the hotel.

Creating the centrepiece for The RuMa came at an opportune moment for Dato’ Sri Bernard Chandran as he was exploring traditional metal elements used in auspicious occasions. “I was inspired to create “Kebayaku,” by incorporating various elements using only gold geometrical squares and butterfly shaped cut metal set in a 3-D pattern. Why gold? Because it symbolizes prosperity and health and Malaysians simply love all things that shine,” said Dato’ Sri Bernard Chandran.

Rooted in a culture of Hostmanship and drawing influence from local craftsmanship, The RuMa provides an experience both daringly authentic and uniquely Malaysian, which makes the nonconforming and spirited Joe Chia an obvious choice of designer to conceptualise the hotel’s staff uniform.
