Concerts in April 2017 at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas!

Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), located in the middle of the PETRONAS Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur City Centre, continues to present fabulous concerts to whet the musical tastes of all music fans.

April will commence with concerts of an orchestral feast themed Symphonic Pink Floyd on Friday, 31 March 2017 and Saturday, 1 April 2017 at 8.30 pm. To be led by Michael Woods, the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) will present the symphonic versions of rock songs from classic albums, Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall.

Next would be Ravel’s masterpiece Bolero by the MPO on Saturday, 8 April 2017 at 8.30 pm and Sunday, 9 April 2017 at 3.00 pm. Naohisa Furusawa will lead the MPO in a programme that will also include works by Stravinsky, Ibert and Quantz, all will delight classical music fans. The concerts will feature flutist Andrea Oliva.

World music will be heard in the acoustic hall when multi Grammy Award winner South African a-cappella vocal group Ladysmith Black Mambazo presents a one-night-only showcase on Monday, 10 April 2017 at 8.30 pm. The group has performed with renowned artists such as Dolly Parton, Stevie Wonder and Josh Groban.

The MPO returns on Saturday, 15 April 2017 at 8.30 pm and Sunday, 16 April 2017 at 3.00 pm. Themed A Hero’s Life, the MPO will be led by Carl St. Clair to perform works by Haydn and Strauss.

A chamber concert will follow on Tuesday, 18 April 2017 at 6.30 pm, presenting chamber works by the MPO ensemble.

Resident Conductor Harish Shankar returns to the podium to helm the MPO in family-themed concerts, The Bear, on Saturday, 22 April 2017 at 3.00 pm, and Sunday, 23 April 2017 at 2.30 pm and 4.30 pm.

The final offering of the month would be concerts themed Swan Lake & Winter Dreams on Saturday, 29 April 2017 at 8.30 pm and Sunday, 30 April 2017 at 3.00 pm. Conductor Rossen Milanov will lead the MPO to present mesmerizing works by Tchaikovsky and Kabalevsky.
